Transliterate
We have created transliteration tool that converts sanskrit, prakrit, hindi and gujarati text to latin script with diacritical marks.
Each vowels and consonents of devanagari has a phonetic sound and that is mapped with the latin characters. Pronunciation table is given below. It is important to remember phonetic sound of each character. When you read prakrit sūtras in latin script don’t consider it as English spellings, they are prakrit words only written in latin.
There are 52 characters in devanagari and only 26 alphabets in Latin. So diacritical characters(ā, ī, ū, ē, ō, r̥, l̥, ṇ, ṅ, ñ, ṭ, ḍ, ṣ, ś, ṁ) and few conjoint characters(ai, au, kh, gh, ch, chh, jh, ṭh, ḍh, th, dh, ph, bh, kṣ, tr, gñ) are used to map all 52 dēvanagari characters.
We have customised ISO 15919 with nasalization rule and also replaced 3 characters c(च) to ch, ch(छ) to chh, jñ(ज्ञ) to gñ.
The mapping chart of devanagari and latin characters with pronunciation is given below.
